One of the best ways to get your website seen when someone searches for your product is to optimize your website for the search engines to bring up your company first.  It’s very important to maximize the exposure to the people looking for your product and/or service.   1. URL and Title Tags – The URL or Domain Name and title tags have a lot to do with how you’ll rank on a websearch. You will want to register a domain if possible with a keyword that people will type in when searching for your product and/or service. Using this in the actual URL will instantly propel you up higher than other companies that don’t have the keyword in the actual URL. For example, if you’re in the weight loss industry. If you can use: weight loss, diet or something similar will help your ranking tremendously. Also, it your title tags give a good description of your business that isn’t to cliche but actually explains what your business does.
  2. Keywords – Choosing keywords are extremely important. The way search engines like Google search websites is what’s called “crawling” your website to see what keywords are used on your website. Search engines like to see a certain density of keywords. One pitfall a lot of people start out with SEO fall into is that they think more keywords the better. This can actually hurt you more then help you. You want to you between 3 to 5 “long-tail” keywords that fit your customer the best and concentrate on those the most to give yourself the best chance of ranking high. To find keywords, use the google keyword tool to search keywords that are relevant to your business. Also look at your competition to see how they rank on certain keywords.
  3. Backlinks – Part of the search engine crawling process is to see how many links outside of your website are associated with your website. These are called “backlinks”, where they link back to your website. This is a bit more complicated of a concept but to keep it simple, if you have links to other large websites that have a lot of traffic then your website will be pulled up in ranking just from those.
